Naga City Comelec maintains BSKE preparations amid postponement uncertainty
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Naga City is maintaining preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled for November 2, pending a decision from Congress regarding potential postponement measures.
Local election officer Maico Julia noted that conducting the BSKE alongside a planned city plebiscite could save the Naga City government approximately P20 million. If held separately, costs could rise to P50 million.
Nationally, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia has urged Congress to reach a decision on postponement proposals by mid-September to streamline logistics and avoid unnecessary operational expenses. While some materials like ballots and ink could be reused for future elections, certain operational costs would not be recoverable.
