Naga City hosts Traslacion procession for 820,000 devotees

Approximately 820,000 devotees participated in the annual Traslacion procession of Our Lady of Peñafrancia in Naga City on September 11, 2026. The religious event was reported as peaceful and orderly despite the massive crowd.

To manage the influx of pilgrims, authorities implemented heightened security measures. These included the deployment of police personnel along the procession route, the use of CCTV cameras, drones, and Starlink devices for monitoring and communication. Bicol police director, Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, monitored operations and credited the orderly conduct to the cooperation between devotees, local government units, and law enforcement.

The Peñafrancia Festival is a month-long series of religious, cultural, and civic events. In addition to the Traslacion, the schedule includes a Fluvial Procession on September 19, alongside various parades, food events, and trade activities. Due to the scale of the festival, Naga City has implemented specific transportation and emergency response preparations to manage traffic and street closures.
