Naga Munchetty to join BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, leaving BBC Breakfast after 17 years

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty announced she will leave the television programme after 17 years to become co‑presenter of BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, starting in January 2027. She said she is “thrilled” to join 5 Live, calling the role “an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up”. The move follows the decision of current 5 Live Breakfast hosts Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards to step down in December 2026; Burden will shift to a weekday mid‑morning slot and Edwards will continue presenting the Saturday programme Fighting Talk. Munchetty, who has hosted 5 Live’s mid‑morning show since 2021, will present the flagship breakfast programme alongside a yet‑to‑be‑named co‑host. She highlighted the appeal of live news, conversation and audience connection, and affirmed she will continue her existing programmes until the transition.
