Naga oral tradition and tribal culture symposium held in Kohima
A national symposium titled “Naga Oral Tradition and Tribal Culture” was held on September 11 at Baptist College in Kohima. Organized by the college’s Research and Development Cell in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), the event focused on the preservation of Nagaland’s diverse tribal identities.
Keynote speaker Professor Anil Kumar of the IGNCA highlighted the potential threats that rapid development and cultural interaction pose to traditional practices and mother tongues. He emphasized the necessity of incorporating indigenous knowledge into school curricula and urged the younger generation to actively participate in carrying forward their heritage to prevent cultural assimilation.
