Naga People’s Front rejects Dr. S. C. Jamir’s President’s Rule proposal

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has rejected a proposal by former Nagaland Chief Minister and Governor Dr. S. C. Jamir to impose President’s Rule in the state. The NPF characterized the proposal as an attempt to suppress the population through “Army rule,” arguing it would exacerbate the existing burden of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

The dispute follows personal criticisms made by Dr. Jamir against NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon, whom Jamir accused of being “tutored” and working for “certain masters.” The NPF dismissed these remarks as factually unsupported personal insinuations that fail to address the central question of whether President’s Rule is justified in Nagaland.

In a separate development, Nagaland BJP President Benjamin Yepthomi expressed support for Dr. Jamir’s views on the Naga political issue. Despite their differing political affiliations, Yepthomi stated that Jamir was “100% correct” regarding the substance of the issue, claiming that a majority of state legislators privately agree with Jamir’s stance but remain hesitant to speak publicly.
