Naga political groups observe 80th Naga Independence Day

Various Naga political groups and organizations observed the 80th anniversary of the declaration of Naga Independence on August 14. The commemorations included global hybrid assemblies and local gatherings across Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Myanmar.

The Global Naga Forum held an international assembly under the theme ‘The Unbroken Line: Territory, Transit, and Truth’, featuring indigenous leaders and UN experts. Participants discussed the importance of sovereignty and the impact of militarization on indigenous rights.

Local political groups, including the NSCN (I-M), reiterated their positions on the Naga political issue. The NSCN (I-M) emphasized that negotiations with the Indian government must result in an ‘acceptable and honourable’ agreement based on the 2015 Framework Agreement, maintaining that their unique history, flag, and constitution are non-negotiable.

Additionally, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) called for unity and an early settlement to the political conflict, urging the Government of India to honor commitments toward a solution based on the principle of coexistence.
