Naga Students’ Federation demands termination of 109 backdoor appointments
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has issued a renewed demand to the Nagaland government for the termination of 109 alleged ‘backdoor’ appointments. These appointments reportedly span 16 different state government departments.
In an open letter, the NSF expressed frustration over the government’s perceived lack of action, noting that previous representations made in April 2025 and an ultimatum issued in March 2026 have been ignored. The Federation is calling for the restoration of meritocracy and transparency in the recruitment process to ensure fairness for eligible job aspirants.
A Cabinet Sub-Committee is scheduled to meet on October 12 to consider the NSF’s ultimatum. The meeting is expected to include the Deputy Chief Minister, several cabinet ministers, advisors, and the Chief Secretary. The NSF has warned that it will intensify democratic protests if the meeting does not result in satisfactory action, and has appealed to those involved in irregular appointments to step down voluntarily.
