Nagaland achieves 95.7% literacy rate, ranking third in India

Nagaland has reached a literacy rate of 95.7%, ranking as the third most literate state in India, following Kerala and Mizoram. This marks a significant increase from the 21.95% literacy rate recorded when the state attained statehood in 1963.

To celebrate Teachers’ Day, the Directorate of School Education, Nagaland, honored 32,714 teachers from both government and private institutions. In recognition of their contributions, September 7 has been declared a holiday for all schools across the state.

School Education Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome stated that the state is currently transforming its educational ecosystem based on three pillars: infrastructure, teacher training, and human resource management. Efforts are underway to address challenges regarding school infrastructure and to better prepare students for future leadership roles.
