Nagaland business groups demand clarity on Sunday closure directive

The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Minority Department have called on the Nagaland government to clarify a reported directive regarding Sunday business closures.

The directive, purportedly issued by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Federal Republic Government of Nagaland (NSCN/FRGN), reportedly calls for the shutdown of businesses and non-Naga establishments on Sundays. The CNCCI has demanded public assurance that the state government remains in control of the administration and has called for an investigation into the legality of the directive.

The NPCC Minority Department expressed concern that the reports have caused uncertainty and panic among traders. While acknowledging Nagaland’s Christian heritage and the significance of Sunday as a day of worship, the department emphasized that measures affecting livelihoods must be lawful and fair. They urged authorities to address concerns through dialogue rather than intimidation or discrimination based on origin.
