Nagaland celebrates cultural heritage through Tokhu Emong and Hornbill festivals

The Tokhu Emong-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2026 was inaugurated at the Public Ground in Wokha on November 4. Lotha Hoho Chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung led the ceremony, emphasizing the festival's role in preserving the cultural identity and heritage of the Lotha community. He described the event as a period of thanksgiving and a means to strengthen community bonds.

During the opening, speakers addressed the relationship between traditional celebrations and religious beliefs, noting that the festival aims to preserve ancestral roots and culture. The event included religious invocations, musical performances by students, and the inauguration of festival stalls.

Separately, the annual Hornbill Festival is scheduled to take place from December 1 to December 10 at the Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima. Known as the “Festival of Festivals,” the 10-day event showcases Nagaland's diverse tribal traditions, including folk music, traditional dances, indigenous sports, and handloom exhibitions. Activities include Naga wrestling and various food contests.
