Nagaland Chief Minister Rio advocates for women’s representation
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio called for increased women’s participation in development and decision-making during the 6th general conference of the Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) in Mon. Addressing the conference, Rio highlighted the state’s progress in gender equality, noting its top ranking in the NITI Aayog SDG India Index 2023–24 and the election of the state’s first female Rajya Sabha MP and female MLAs.
ENWO President Yingphe Konyak appealed for rightful participation in the decision-making process of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA). Konyak expressed concern over the organization’s exclusion from the FNTA process, describing it as a “painful contradiction” given the group’s support for the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) during the statehood movement. She called for dialogue with stakeholders to ensure women are treated as partners rather than recipients of patronage in shaping the region’s future.
