Nagaland coffee cultivation requires integrated approach to boost farmer income

North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretary Satinder Kumar Bhalla has emphasized the necessity of an integrated approach to coffee cultivation in Nagaland to increase farmer incomes. During a visit to Tuophema village in the Kohima district, Bhalla reviewed the progress of the Coffee USP Project, inspecting plantation sites and a Hi-Tech Coffee Washing Station.

Bhalla noted that for the sector to become commercially viable and competitive, development must extend beyond planting trees to include improved road connectivity, mechanization, modern processing machinery, efficient post-harvest infrastructure, and strong market and export linkages.

The Coffee USP Project is described as an integrated livelihood and economic development program designed to help local communities derive greater value from regional resources. The initiative aims to create sustainable livelihoods and improve access to education, healthcare, and modern amenities, contributing to the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
