Nagaland Congress demands electoral roll review amid voter discrepancies

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised significant concerns regarding discrepancies in the state’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party highlighted a gap between the pre-revision figure of 1,357,208 electors and the 1,199,456 enumeration forms received during the collection period.

Congress leaders, including AICC observer Pranav Shagotra and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, have alleged voter-list manipulation and the deletion of names. The party specifically questioned how deceased individuals remain on rolls and how duplicate registrations occur. They have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging involvement of high-ranking government officials in these irregularities.

Official data from the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer’s office indicates that the revision process identified 28,944 deceased electors, 1,23,749 individuals categorized as absent or permanently shifted, and 5,059 duplicate registrations. Election authorities maintained that names are not deleted without due process and noted that citizens can seek inclusion during the claims and objections period, which concludes with a final roll publication scheduled for November 22, 2026.
