Nagaland: Five NPP MLAs merge with Naga People’s Front

All five elected members of the National People’s Party (NPP) in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly have merged with the Naga People’s Front (NPF). The move, which took place in Dimapur, leaves the NPP without any remaining elected members in the 60-member House.

The merging legislators include A. Nyamnyei Konyak, Nuklutoshi, C. Kipili Sangtam, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, and Benei M. Lamthiu. The MLAs stated the merger was voluntary, citing faith in the leadership of Chief Minister and NPF President Neiphiu Rio and alignment with the regional party’s ideology.

Following the Speaker's approval, the NPF’s strength in the assembly has increased to 39 members. This development follows a previous merger involving the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and reflects a trend of political consolidation within the state.
