Nagaland Governor calls for empowerment of persons with disabilities

Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has called for a transition from providing mere care to fostering empowerment for persons with disabilities (PwDs). Speaking at the 100th Regional Parents’ Meet 2026, hosted by the Nagaland Parents Association for the Disabled (NAPAD) in Kohima, Yadav emphasized that while support often begins within the family, it must ultimately enable individuals to lead with dignity, independence, and equal opportunity.

The Governor stressed that inclusion is a shared responsibility involving the government, schools, healthcare institutions, employers, and civil society. He advocated for universal accessibility across public buildings, transport systems, workplaces, and digital platforms. To achieve this, he called for equal access to education, skill development, and employment, noting that the principles of the National Education Policy 2020 must be translated into meaningful action.

Additionally, Yadav highlighted the importance of early identification and intervention through coordinated efforts between families, health workers, and medical professionals. He noted that education remains central to inclusion, requiring accessible infrastructure, trained teachers, and appropriate learning materials.
