Nagaland hosts Tokhü Emong Bird Count to promote conservation

The Tokhü Emong Bird Count, an annual community-driven conservation initiative in Nagaland, is entering its fifth year. Organized by Eco Warriors Nagaland, the event takes place from November 4 to November 7 alongside the Tokhü Emong Festival.

The initiative aims to promote bird watching, document local biodiversity, and raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural ecosystems. By engaging local communities, youth, and students, the program seeks to foster a sense of collective responsibility toward preserving the region's diverse bird species, forests, and wildlife.

Organizers highlight that bird population trends and diversity provide critical insights into the overall health of the ecosystem. The effort also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the traditional connection between Naga culture and the natural environment in the face of modern threats such as deforestation, habitat destruction, and unsustainable resource exploitation.
