Nagaland institutions expand facilities and face medical education concerns
Nagaland University has inaugurated six new facilities at its Medziphema Campus, including research laboratories, a modern piggery project, feed production units, and a sports complex. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik stated the expansion aims to strengthen research, innovation, and academic excellence, particularly within the School of Agricultural Sciences.
Separately, the Nagaland In-service Doctors Association (NIDA) has raised concerns regarding irregularities at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR). The association highlighted critical faculty shortages, noting the Pediatric department currently lacks faculty and other departments have only single instructors. NIDA warned that these discrepancies could lead to de-recognition by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and has called for urgent recruitment through established eligibility qualifications.
