Nagaland launches initiatives to preserve traditional pottery and wood carving
Various cultural preservation initiatives are underway in Nagaland to protect traditional crafts. In Dimapur, the INTACH Nagaland Chapter and the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) hosted an endangered craft workshop focused on pottery. The event involved 97 students from eight schools who learned traditional techniques from artisans of Changki village, a community known for its earthen pottery heritage.
Simultaneously, a 50-day wood carving training programme has commenced in Indisen village. Sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles and implemented by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation, the Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme aims to provide 30 local artisans with advanced training. The program combines traditional heritage with modern techniques to improve product quality and support sustainable livelihoods.
