Nagaland MP calls for Kohima railway facility upgrades
Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir visited the railway ticket counter at the Multi-Level Parking in Kohima on August 27 to review its operations and address infrastructure concerns. Jamir highlighted the need for immediate upgrades to the facility, noting that much of the current equipment is outdated and requires attention from the Railway Ministry.
A primary concern raised by the MP is the insufficient railway reservation quota for Nagaland passengers. He noted that limited quotas for trains passing through Dimapur Railway Station, such as the Shatabdi and Nagaland Special, force residents to book tickets from neighboring states. Jamir emphasized that as Kohima and Dimapur serve as significant transit centers, the state deserves an adequate reservation quota.
Jamir stated he intends to meet with railway authorities in Dimapur to discuss these improvements and warned that if the issues are not addressed, he will raise the matter in Parliament during the upcoming winter session. He also noted that Nagaland contributes substantial revenue to the railways, which should support better facilities for the state.
