Nagaland observes Wildlife Week 2026 to promote conservation

Nagaland observed Wildlife Week 2026 across various districts and institutions under the theme ‘Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife’. The initiative focused on promoting biodiversity protection, habitat connectivity, and sustainable coexistence between humans and nature through educational programs and community engagement.

In Kohima, the Forest Division held a program emphasizing the importance of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Conservator of Forests K. Hukato Chishi highlighted the responsibility of citizens to protect natural resources and noted that Naga traditions have long supported conservation values. Officials also discussed the role of village communities, churches, and youth organizations in managing forests and enforcing protection laws.

In Wokha, the Doyang and Wokha Forest Divisions collaborated with Green Succession Nagaland and the Wokha District Legal Services Authority to host observances at the Old Ralan Community Hall. Discussions centered on the urgent need to protect fragile ecosystems and the impact of threats such as habitat loss, deforestation, and illegal wildlife trade.
