Nagaland opens Northeast India’s first logistics training centre
The Nagaland government has inaugurated the Centre of Logistics Training for Excellence (COLTE) in Dimapur, marking the first logistics training facility of its kind in Northeast India. The centre was established through a tripartite agreement between the Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Redington Foundation, and the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC).
Designed to combat high unemployment rates in the state, the facility aims to train approximately 400 economically weaker youth annually in areas such as warehousing, supply chain management, and logistics technology. The program provides free training, accommodation, and food, with a mandate that at least 20 per cent of trainees be women and girls.
Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang noted that over 71,000 people are registered as unemployed in Nagaland, with 92 per cent lacking formal technical or vocational training. The initiative seeks to leverage Dimapur’s strategic position as a transit hub under the Act East Policy to connect local youth to domestic and international job markets. A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed with Zipaworld Innovative Private Limited to facilitate international placements.
