Nagaland Police and Konyak groups unite to combat drugs in Mon

The Nagaland Police and Konyak civil society organisations have agreed to launch a joint initiative to combat the rising drug menace in the Mon district. The decision follows a consultation meeting in Kohima led by Director General of Police Rupin Sharma, involving the Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK).

Participants discussed the district's role as a transit route for illicit drugs and the increasing influx of peddlers and users. The civil society groups emphasized that the issue has evolved from a law-and-order concern into a significant social threat to the younger generation. Proposed strategies include stronger enforcement, improved intelligence coordination, rehabilitation efforts, and increased community participation.

To formalize this partnership, the groups intend to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The initiative also aims to strengthen the District Level Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) to ensure accountability across various stakeholders, including village guards, churches, and local administration.
