Nagaland prepares for 27th Hornbill Festival in 2026
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has called for coordinated preparations among government departments and local communities to ensure the success of the 27th Hornbill Festival in 2026. During a meeting of the Standing High Powered Committee at Kisama, Rio emphasized the need for improved road connectivity, reliable power and water supplies, security, traffic management, and cleanliness.
To facilitate timely action, the Chief Minister directed all departments to designate nodal officers for the event. He also noted that he would convene a specific meeting to address road-related issues. Advisor Abu Metha described the festival as a vital economic engine and a significant platform for international engagement, noting its evolution from a three-day event into a major tourism attraction featuring over 300 activities.
Minister of Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along reported that several countries have expressed interest in partnering with Nagaland for the festival. Final decisions regarding international partnerships will be made by the High Powered Committee in consultation with stakeholders.
