Nagaland University hosts 18th National Youth Parliament Competition

Nagaland University’s Lumami campus hosted the 18th National Youth Parliament Competition on October 27. The event was designed to promote parliamentary democracy, constitutional values, and civic responsibility among students by providing a platform for engagement in democratic discussions and parliamentary procedures.

KG Kenye, Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, served as the chief guest and judge. During his address, Kenye emphasized the importance of responsible political participation and freedom of expression. He specifically highlighted Nagaland’s unique constitutional status under Article 371A, which protects Naga religious and social practices, customary laws, and land ownership and resource management.

The competition, which included a concept note presented by Group Coordinator Prof. (Dr) Anupam Kurlwal, aimed to nurture leadership qualities and critical thinking in young participants. Kenye urged the youth to exercise their democratic rights responsibly and noted the historical significance of the constitutional framework established by Dr. BR Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly.
