Nagaland University hosts 19th All India Conference of Chinese Studies
The 19th All India Conference of Chinese Studies (AICCS) 2026 concluded on October 30 following three days of deliberations at Nagaland University. Jointly organized by the Institute of Chinese Studies, New Delhi, and Nagaland University’s Department of Political Science, the event brought together scholars from more than 27 institutions across India.
Discussions focused on China’s political economy, governance, and strategic influence, alongside the challenges facing China Studies within India. Participants addressed critical gaps in research infrastructure, Chinese language education, and the scarcity of academic programs in Northeast India. The conference also examined the impact of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, digital governance, semiconductor infrastructure, and critical mineral supply chains.
Speakers emphasized the necessity of developing an independent, evidence-based understanding of China through primary-source research. The sessions also highlighted concerns regarding digital sovereignty, AI-related employment displacement, and technological dependencies. The 20th AICCS is scheduled to be hosted by Chanakya University, Bengaluru, in 2027.
