Nagaland University hosts student social and agricultural demonstrations

Nagaland University’s School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at the Medziphema Campus recently held two distinct events focused on student integration and agricultural development.

On September 18, the school hosted its 31st Annual Fresher’s Social to welcome new undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, and Ph.D. students. The event, organized by the Nagaland University Students’ Union, featured a welcome address by Dean Prof Pauline Alila and was attended by Chief Guest Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture for the Government of Nagaland. Yanthan noted the cultural diversity of the student body, which includes individuals from across Northeast India and other regions.

In a separate initiative on September 17, the SAS Farmers’ Cell conducted an on-farm demonstration and scientist-farmer interaction at Sirhi Angami village in the Chümoukedima District. Aimed at improving Rabi season productivity, the program provided hands-on training in scientific cultivation practices. Technical sessions included demonstrations on seed bio-priming and treatment using Trichoderma by Dr. Kavi Sumi, as well as instruction on identifying beneficial insects and the importance of vegetable production for nutrition and livelihoods.
