Nagaland University hosts talk on community-led resource management
Nagaland University’s Department of Rural Development and Planning hosted a Rural Talk Series on October 15 at its Medziphema Campus. The session, titled “Community-led Natural Resource Management,” focused on the importance of community participation, indigenous practices, and local institutions in achieving sustainable environmental governance.
The discussion emphasized the relevance of community-based approaches in Nagaland and the wider Northeast region, where traditional institutions maintain close ties to the natural environment. Participants explored the intersection of national forest policies, customary laws, and traditional land ownership systems.
Dr. Geetanjoy Sahu from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) led a session on forest resource governance in Scheduled Areas, tracing its evolution from the pre-colonial period to the present day. The event served as a platform for academics, researchers, and students to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue regarding contemporary rural development challenges.
