Nagano Prefecture reports six deaths in mushroom foraging accidents
A series of fatal accidents involving mushroom foragers has been reported in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Between September 22 and October 11, six deaths have been confirmed in connection with foraging activities.
On October 9, Hiroshi Kurosawa, the 71-year-old mayor of Koumi, was found deceased in a forest after entering the mountains alone to collect mushrooms. Additionally, on October 11, a 73-year-old woman from Tatsuno Town died after falling approximately 40 meters down a steep slope while foraging in the mountains of Anan Town.
While heavy autumn rains have led to a bountiful mushroom season, authorities are urging caution. Police advise individuals to avoid entering steep slopes and recommend foraging in groups to prevent further accidents.
