Nagasaki City facility serves expired lactate drink to children

On the morning of July 24, the Hiyoshi Natural House in Nagasaki City provided a lactate beverage that was five days past its "best‑before" date to children staying in an after‑school club. Of the 40 participants, 17 received the expired drink during breakfast. No complaints of illness have been reported.

The city said the drink was stored unopened in a refrigerator and that the facility normally discards products once the best‑before date has passed. Officials will work with the designated manager of the Hiyoshi Natural House to tighten pre‑service checks and prevent a recurrence.
