Nagisa Saito to star in first lead drama role in ‘Jootei’ remake

Nagisa Saito has been cast to lead her first continuous television drama series, ‘Jootei’ (The Empress), which is scheduled to premiere on Yomiuri TV’s Drama DiVE block on October 22.

Based on the popular manga by Ryo Kurashina, the story follows Ayaka Tachibana, played by Saito, as she navigates the nightlife of Ginza. Driven by a desire for revenge against the powerful figures responsible for her mother's death, the protagonist uses her beauty, courage, and intellect to climb the social ladder and claim the title of ‘Empress.’

Saito expressed both excitement and pressure regarding her first starring role, stating she intends to approach the character with sincerity and care. The original creator, Ryo Kurashina, also shared his enthusiasm for seeing the classic work reimagined for the Reiwa era.
