Nagoya announces new commercial developments in Naka and Meieki districts

Two new commercial developments are planned for Nagoya, Japan, aimed at enhancing urban amenities and catering to both local and international visitors.

Mitsubishi Estate has announced the naming of its upcoming mixed-use building in Naka Ward as ‘Gate Front Hisaya Odori’. Scheduled for completion in December 2026, the 13-story structure will be directly connected to the Hisaya Odori subway station and adjacent to Hisaya Odori Park. The building will feature flagship stores for interior brand Actus and wellness brand Airweave, alongside various dining options. The project includes disaster prevention features such as emergency generators and facilities to accommodate people unable to return home during large-scale emergencies.

Separately, Tenpo Ryutsu Net Co., Ltd. has announced the development of ‘Meieki Derayokocho’, a three-story dining facility located a four-minute walk from Nagoya Station. Expected to open in October 2027, the facility will house approximately 17 restaurants, including sushi, ramen, and Italian cuisine. Designed with a ‘wa-modern’ concept to appeal to inbound tourists, the project utilizes a short-term fixed-term land lease model to revitalize urban land that is often difficult to develop due to investment recovery constraints.
