Nagoya restaurants adapt menus for 2026 Asian Games Halal requirements
In preparation for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, local food establishments in Nagoya are adapting their menus to accommodate Muslim athletes and travelers. To meet Halal dietary requirements, which prohibit pork and alcohol, the popular chicken wing chain Sekai no Yamachan is modifying its signature recipe. The restaurant is replacing mirin, an alcohol-based seasoning, with a special spice blend and has introduced four Halal-compliant meals. To prevent cross-contamination, the chain will use dedicated utensils and cookware.
Other local businesses are also making adjustments. Okusu Yamamoto, a traditional restaurant specializing in miso-flavored udon, has developed Halal-friendly versions of its dishes by using date juice instead of mirin and ensuring all meat is processed according to Islamic standards. These changes aim to ensure that the diverse international community attending the games can safely enjoy Nagoya’s regional specialties.
