Nagpur and Solapur implement measures for Ganesh idol immersion

In preparation for the Ganesh festival, municipal authorities in Nagpur are implementing measures to protect natural water bodies from pollution. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will establish 447 artificial immersion tanks across 225 locations. This initiative aims to prevent non-biodegradable materials, such as Plaster of Paris and toxic paints, from entering lakes and rivers. The NMC has prohibited the immersion of idols in natural water bodies, deploying 22 mobile tanks to supplement the fixed facilities.

In Solapur, local political groups and festival organizers have raised concerns regarding the cleanliness of immersion sites. Allegations have been made against the municipal administration for failing to clean the immersion tanks at Ganapati Ghat, with claims that the water has not been changed since the previous year. Organizers have called for immediate sanitation and water replacement before the scheduled immersions begin.
