Nagpur axe attack by wanted criminal leads to arrest

On the evening of July 29 in the Indira Mata Nagar area of Nagpur's MIDC zone, a man identified as Dinesh "Bhadya" Shankar Akode, a criminal declared wanted in a Tadipaar (inter‑state) case, entered the neighbourhood. He brandished an axe and threatened 26‑year‑old painter Ganesh Nabhuchand Tembe, demanding that the victim bring him alcohol after the victim refused to pay for drinks. To save his life, Tembe complied and handed over the alcohol before the attacker fled.

Police from the MIDC police station quickly registered a complaint, arrested Akode and began an investigation into how a Tadipaar‑declared offender could re‑enter the city, probing possible assistance or shelter. The suspect has prior records for illegal weapon possession, theft, assault and other serious crimes. Further legal action is pending.
