Nagpur man kills daughter-in-law over witchcraft suspicions

In the Pili Nadi area of Nagpur, a 72-year-old man allegedly murdered his daughter-in-law, Lakshmi Pali, using an axe. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Pahune Layout under the jurisdiction of the Yashodhara Nagar police station.

Reports indicate that the suspect, Natthulal Pali, harbored suspicions that Lakshmi was practicing witchcraft and was responsible for the death of his son, Ravishankar, who passed away in 2019. Following the fatal attack, Natthulal attempted suicide by jumping into a nearby well.

Local residents and the fire department intervened to rescue him from the well. He was transported to a hospital in serious condition due to water in his lungs. Police have registered a murder case and are investigating the extent to which superstition motivated the crime.
