Nagpur Police ban high-powered sound systems and laser lights

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil has issued prohibitory orders banning the use of high-powered, modified sound systems and laser lights during the upcoming festive season. The restrictions, imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, are set to remain in effect from early September through November 1.

The ban targets modified vehicles equipped with Dolby, plasma, or pressure-horn-based sound systems, as well as multi-speaker setups. Authorities stated that these systems often violate noise pollution limits and can lead to law-and-order issues. Additionally, the use of beam and laser lights is prohibited due to risks of eye injury to citizens and the potential for causing driver distraction and accidents.

While high-intensity amplified systems are banned, sound systems that operate within the permissible noise limits prescribed by the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, are not covered by the prohibition. Violators may face legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
