Nagpur woman trafficked to Portugal following fake job scam
A 28-year-old commerce graduate from Nagpur was allegedly trafficked to Portugal after being deceived by a Pune-based recruitment agency, 'We Migrate,' with promises of overseas employment.
The victim reported that the agency charged her approximately Rs 11 lakh for a job package involving a position at a chocolate company in Europe. After traveling through Spain, the woman alleges her passport was seized, and she was sold to a beer shop owner in Odemira, Portugal. She claims she was subjected to forced labor and sexual exploitation.
The victim managed to escape on June 29, traveling through Madrid and Doha before returning to India. Following her return, she alleged that the accused individuals attempted to extort an additional Rs 3 lakh from her.
Pune police have registered a case involving charges of human trafficking, wrongful confinement, cheating, and intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is being conducted by the Pune City Police and the Crime Branch, with legal proceedings involving authorities in both India and Portugal.
