NAGRAT vows to expose teachers and staff sexually abusing students

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has announced it will no longer protect teachers or non-teaching staff accused of sexually abusing students. NAGRAT President Jacob Anabah stated that the association is developing decisive measures to address sexual harassment and misconduct within schools, including a willingness to name and shame offenders.

Mr. Anabah emphasized that educators hold a parental responsibility toward their students and must maintain strict professional boundaries. He noted that while sexual abuse in schools has been a long-standing issue, social media has increased the visibility of such incidents.

To address the problem, NAGRAT has established a committee to develop protocols for dealing with misconduct. The association also called upon religious leaders, traditional chiefs, and other societal opinion leaders to speak out against child sexual assault and ensure cases are properly addressed, citing the Ghana Education Service Council Code of Conduct which prohibits sexual harassment of pupils.
