Naha Airport runway closed after F-15 emergency landing

An F-15 fighter jet belonging to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Naha Base made an emergency landing at Naha Airport on the night of September 10 due to a hydraulic system malfunction. During the landing, sparks were observed coming from the rear of the aircraft, and the pilot deployed wires to assist in deceleration.

The aircraft became immobilized on the second runway, causing an oil leak and necessitating a runway closure for approximately one hour. This incident resulted in delays for 15 arriving flights. No injuries were reported.

This event follows a similar incident on August 18, where an F-15 became stuck on the runway, leading to a four-hour closure. The recurring issues have caused concern and dissatisfaction among airport users.
