Naha Airport security checkpoint closed due to lost scissors
A security checkpoint at Naha Airport was partially closed for approximately two hours on the morning of October 13, 2026, after a cleaning contractor reported a missing pair of scissors within a restricted area where hazardous items are prohibited.
The scissors were eventually located in the cleaning company’s office. Following safety verifications, security screenings resumed at 7:53 AM. The incident caused significant congestion and long queues for travelers.
According to the Naha Airport Office and various airlines, the disruption resulted in delays for 10 departing flights, with some delays lasting up to 1 hour and 43 minutes. Some airlines anticipate the impact may continue throughout the day.
