Naha Urban Health Centre opens in Solomon Islands

The Naha Urban Health Centre has officially opened in East Honiara, marking the first Level 2 Urban Health Centre in the Solomon Islands. The facility is designed to provide comprehensive primary healthcare and diagnostic services under one roof, including dental care, pathology, medical imaging, and a community pharmacy.

Technological upgrades at the centre include the country’s first nurse call system and an electronic queuing system for outpatient and dental services. Additionally, the facility includes the Naha Birthing Centre, which features five birthing suites intended to alleviate overcrowding at the National Referral Hospital. While the main health centre has commenced operations, the birthing centre will open at a later date following final preparatory works.

The development represents a significant transition for the Naha area, which has evolved from an undeveloped valley into a growing township. For decades, local residents faced limited access to essential services, often requiring long travel times to reach medical care.
