Nahan, Himachal Pradesh: Violent clashes leave 14 injured

Violent clashes erupted in Nahan, the headquarters of the Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh, following a dispute over the installation of a welcome gate at Maharishi Valmiki Chowk. The conflict involved residents from the Valmiki and Govindgarh neighborhoods, escalating from a verbal argument into widespread stone-pelting using bricks, sticks, and glass bottles.

During the unrest, 14 people were injured, including Station House Officer (SHO) Kulbir Singh and several other police officers who were attacked while attempting to mediate. A Tehsildar’s official vehicle was also severely damaged by the mob, and a scrap shop was set on fire.

Authorities deployed water cannons and additional police forces to regain control of the situation. The violence caused significant traffic disruptions on National Highway 907A, resulting in a five-kilometer vehicle queue. Police Superintendent Nishit Singh Negi stated that the identities of those involved are being established and strict action will be taken against the perpetrators. The injured were treated at Nahan Medical College and are reported to be out of danger.
