Naharlagun police arrest suspects in ₹2.40 crore government payment fraud
Naharlagun police have arrested individuals involved in an alleged ₹2.40 crore fraud targeting a contractor. The victim was reportedly owed more than ₹17 crore in pending government payments under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
According to investigators, the accused—identified as Rakesh Kumar Singh, Toluk Lombi, and Dubi Ete—claimed they could use high-level government influence to facilitate the release of the dues. The contractor allegedly paid ₹2.40 crore in exchange for a document purportedly showing the payment had been cleared. However, the Rural Works Department (RWD) Chief Engineer’s office identified the letter as a forgery.
Police arrested Rakesh Kumar Singh in Guwahati following a court's rejection of his plea to cancel the FIR. Singh has been granted six days of police custody as investigators work to identify all involved parties and trace the transaction.
