Nahid Islam questions stability of Bangladesh Parliament
Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Whip of the Opposition, has expressed doubt regarding whether the current national parliament will complete its five-year term. Speaking at a program in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka, Islam criticized the current administration, stating that the parliament lacks value because it fails to recognize the voices of the opposition and the public.
Islam called for the resignation of the Home Minister to address deteriorating law and order conditions, as well as the Energy Minister due to failures in the fuel sector. He also demanded the formation of a constitutional reform council, labeling current constitutional amendment efforts as a farce.
Regarding local governance, Islam contested the legality of appointed administrators in city corporations and district councils participating in local elections. He specifically urged the withdrawal of statements suggesting that administrators could run for mayoral positions, arguing such practices are undemocratic.
