Nahida Akter appointed Bangladesh women’s T20I captain
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed Nahida Akter as the new captain of the women’s T20I team. Akter, who has served as vice-captain for an extended period, succeeds Nigar Sultana. Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain to support the new leadership.
Sultana stepped down from the T20I captaincy following the Asian Games to focus on her individual performance as a player. While she is relinquishing the T20I role, she will continue to captain the Bangladesh ODI team. Reports indicate that Sultana had expressed dissatisfaction with her recent treatment by the board.
BCB women’s wing chairman Rafiqul Islam stated that the selection panel decided Akter was ready for the responsibility due to her long tenure as deputy. The team is scheduled to compete in the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Thailand, with their first match against Pakistan set for November 12.
