Nahuel Gallo calls for release of Venezuelan political prisoners
Nahuel Gallo, an Argentine Gendarmerie officer who was detained in Venezuela for 448 days, used his participation in the Buenos Aires Half Marathon to draw international attention to political prisoners in Venezuela.
After completing the 21-kilometer race, Gallo shared a message on social media stating, “Yesterday I ran free,” while noting that he could not stop thinking about those who remain imprisoned. He wore a shirt with the slogan “Free all political prisoners and foreigners” to highlight the ongoing crisis.
Gallo criticized the Venezuelan government for maintaining a policy of persecution, noting that while there are talks of amnesties, many remain forgotten. He specifically highlighted the plight of Colombian citizens who have faced charges of terrorism, espionage, and conspiracy without due process, as well as Venezuelan individuals held for years without justice.
