Nahuel Huapi National Park conducts seven-hour rescue of injured hiker

A coordinated rescue operation lasting over seven hours was conducted in Nahuel Huapi National Park to assist a 36-year-old female hiker from Buenos Aires. The woman suffered a leg injury while trekking on the trail toward the Frey refuge, specifically in the area between the Playa Muñoz junction and the ascent to the refuge.

The emergency response involved seven brigadistas from the Department of Fires, Communications and Emergencies (ICE), two park rangers, and six members of the Rescue Commission, including paramedic personnel. Rescuers used specialized vehicles and a boat to reach and evacuate the hiker. After being stabilized at the site, she was carried by stretcher to the Playa Muñoz coast, transferred by boat to the local station, and finally taken to a medical center by ambulance around 7:30 p.m.

Park authorities have used this incident to reiterate safety guidelines for mountain activities. They emphasize the necessity of completing the mandatory Trekking Registry, checking weather forecasts, planning return times to avoid hiking in the dark, and ensuring hikers possess the appropriate equipment and physical capability for the terrain.
