Nahuel Huapi National Park launches Lahuan Project to protect Patagonian forests

Nahuel Huapi National Park, the North Patagonia Regional Delegation, and specialists from INIBIOMA, CONICET, and the Universidad Nacional del Comahue have launched the Lahuan Project. This scientific initiative aims to strengthen the conservation of alerce forests, which are among the longest-living tree species on Earth and a key component of Patagonian ecosystems.

The project responds to threats such as forest fires and other environmental factors. It combines scientific research with conservation actions, including plant production for future restoration strategies and genetic studies to understand species diversity. These efforts are intended to provide tools for the survival of the alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides) and the preservation of its natural habitats.
