Nail Expert Ambra Toccacieli Advises Flattering Nail Colors for Mature Hands

As hands age they lose elasticity, become drier and more prone to discoloration, making hand‑care essential. Nail expert Ambra Toccacieli says the right nail polish can brighten the hand, even out skin tone and create a more youthful appearance.

She recommends avoiding yellow or orange undertones, which amplify skin marks, and choosing shades such as pinky nudes, cool beiges, delicate mauves and milky tones that harmonize with mature skin. For very slim hands, milky and semi‑transparent colors give the illusion of fuller nail beds, while dark shades can make hands appear thinner.

When the skin is thin or veins are visible, warm or neutral peach, hot pink or soft coral tones help balance bluish undertones. Toccacieli also advises medium‑length, soft‑squoval nail shapes rather than sharp coffin or stiletto styles, and a glossy finish to reflect light and mask texture, noting that matte can highlight skin laxity if not paired with soft shades.
