Naim Frashëri: Commemorating the 180th Anniversary of the Albanian National Poet

On the 180th anniversary of the birth of Naim Frashëri (1846–1900), the central figure of the Albanian National Renaissance, literary discussions have highlighted his role as a poet and prophet for his nation.

Analyses of his work often draw comparisons to the American poet Walt Whitman, noting that both writers emerged during periods of national affirmation and belonged to the Romantic movement. Scholars and critics, including Rexhep Qosja, have extensively studied Frashëri’s impact on 19th-century Albanian culture and literature.
